Septic and Grease Trap Pumping

Picture
Septic tank or Grease trap pumping can be one of the most important maintenance things you need to do to your home. Most of the time homeowners don`t even know that they are on a septic tank until they start having problems with commodes backing up ,washing machines overflowing,or even sewage backing up in a shower or tub.Can you imagine waking up and walking to the bathroom to find sewage all over the floor!!! Most people would not know what to do first. The best way to avoid this from happening is to find out if you have a sewer line that connects to the County or city Sewer system. Most of the time if this is the case you will get a bill for this every month. It is usually included with your water bill.If you do not you probably have a septic tank.If your house was built before 1970 you may also have a Grease  trap. The Grease trap can have the kitchen and possibly the washing machine plumbing flowing into it.

All septic tanks need to be pumped out every 3 to 5 years whether you are having problems or not. These are rules that the Jefferson County Health Dept. and most other Health Depts around the country have adopted. If you have a garbage disposal you have to pump it out every year. This is what it takes to keep septic tanks working right.Think about it, how much toilet paper do you buy in a year.Toilet paper goes into the septic tank and floats on the top until bacteria breaks it down to a liquid. Then it flows out to the field lines under your yard.Septic tanks and grease traps are just like your grass in your yard if you don`t cut it weekly it grow up until you cannot cut with normal lawnmowers. Also special cleaners kill the good bacteria in your septic tank. These are the same bacteria that work inside your body. Most people use more cleaning liquid than needed to do the job and it kills the good bacteria that make your septic tank work correctly.

Grease traps are similar to septic  tanks but they need more maintenance. Grease causes more problems to plumbing systems than  all other problems combined.Grease unlike water does not dissolve and it sticks to everything causing all drains to stop up.Then the grease begins to harden then it has to be cut out with electric drain cleaning equipment. But when it gets inside a field line you have to replace the field line. The reason it gets into a field line is when a grease trap or septic tank is not pumped out  every 3 to 5 years the grease gets over into the piping that goes to the field line. Then it`s too late. It`s so much cheaper to pump septic and grease traps than to do even the cheapest repairs to them. But they are still not cheap enough, just a little pumping will go a long way to stop these problems from ever beginning.
